Yield and Monetization interview practice

Balance CPM, fill, bid density, request capacity and total revenue without hiding losses behind an average metric.

Operating workflow

  1. Segment performance by market, device, placement and demand path.
  2. Evaluate pricing changes with revenue per session, fill and bid density, not CPM alone.
  3. Use matched holdouts before expanding a unified pricing rule.
  4. Measure request coverage and capacity before treating lower bid volume as a demand problem.

Evidence you inspect

  • Floor holdouts
  • Bid distributions
  • Revenue per session
  • Fill and match rates
  • QPS limits and request coverage

Skills demonstrated

  • UPR and floors
  • RPS analysis
  • Demand allocation
  • QPS capacity

Practice interview questions

These original scenarios help you practice explaining evidence and decisions. Use them to prepare, then test your reasoning in Flight Lab.

CPM improves after a floor increase, but revenue falls. How would you explain it?

Calculate the impact of lost monetized impressions and compare revenue per request or session. Use comparable traffic segments and a control where practical. A higher clearing CPM may not offset lower fill, and concurrent demand changes can affect a before-and-after comparison.

Common mistake: Declaring success based only on the CPM of impressions that still sold.

Traffic is stable but bids fall. How do you separate capacity from demand?

Compare eligible opportunities, requests sent, returned bids, and timeout or throttle evidence by endpoint and short time window. If request coverage falls while bid rate stays stable, investigate allocation or capacity before attributing the change to buyer demand.

Common mistake: Using bid volume alone without naming its request denominator.

Review your practice attempt

Explain the impact, the evidence that supports your diagnosis, the correction, and the check that confirms recovery. State what remains uncertain and what you would communicate to the campaign owner.
